Antalya
Known as Turkish Riviera
In recent years, Antalya has become the home of modern Turkish culture, with its contemporary nature weaving its way around the port town's ancient history. Situated on the Gulf of Antalya, visitors are charmed by the old town harbour and the region's blue waters, glorious sunshine and Mediterranean feel.
Famous for its orange groves and olives, the region attracts an increasing number of tourists every year and as such, guesthouses and hotels abound. There are several beaches which are ideal for swimming, parks aplenty with exotic regional plants and there are also two water parks offering a variety of water-based games and activities. Just outside the town, there are stunning waterfalls, a winter sports centre, a national park with its famous ancient city and cave.
There is a beautiful Roman-Ottoman quarter, Kaleiçi, with staggering views of the Bey Mountains, as well as a Roman harbour at Kaleiçi's base. The symbol of the city is a mosque with fluted minarets. The sun-drenched town boasts some of Turkey's finest restaurants, one of its most impressive archaeological museums and some of the country's best preserved Ottoman architecture.
