Saigon
Indochina's Pride
Towering developments pierce the skyline and the Saigon River divides the city. Saigon has some of the best cuisine in the country from next-to-nothing street eating through to salubrious haute cuisine. A renewed interest in the arts has seen the city's many galleries and museums slowly being spruced up.
Head to Cholon for Saigon's best pagodas. Quan Am Pagoda is one of the city's oldest and is adorned with gold and artistic impressions of the guardian spirits. Take in the scene at Reunification Palace, where Vietnam was reunified in 1975 and admire the Notre Dame Cathedral that took 16 years to build starting in 1877. Also visit the politically charged War Remnants Museum.
Haggle over items at the Binh Thanh Market, Saigon's best market, then head to District 1 after sunset, when this area really explodes with life. Grab a meal of 'Pho', beef noodle soup with some spring rolls before dancing the night away in one of many lively venues.
