Negombo

Life's a Beach


Negombo is located just minutes from Sri Lanka's international airport, making the coastal city easily accessible. Used by the Portuguese, Dutch and British as the main export harbour for cinnamon, you still can see many historical buildings.

View Munneswaram, the Hindu temple so popular with visitors for its breathtaking architecture, or visit the ancient Dutch and Portuguese fort which is now the local jail. Enjoy lazing on the golden sands or take part in numerous water sports for which the conditions are perfect. Wakeboarding, water skiing, kite surfing and scuba diving are all popular pastimes at Negombo. Head to Rani Shopping Tower for a choice selection of shops selling jewellery, hand-made batik prints and hand-carved trinkets.

Watch the old world fishing crafts bring in a variety of fish, lobsters and prawns fresh from the sea, then head to one of the many Colonial-style restaurants on Long Beach, where the catch of the day will be prepared in delicious Sri Lankan style.
