Lombok
Undiscovered Paradise
The island of Lombok is located 40 kilometres to the west of Bali, separated by the Alas Strait. Although close in proximity, the two islands are worlds apart, with Lombok still relatively undeveloped in comparison.
Undiscovered for many years by the tourists visiting the neighbouring islands, Lombok now appears to be on the verge of a tourist boom. New developments, chic boutique resorts and quality food and beverage outlets can now be found just a stones throw away from rural, unspoiled countryside.
Attracting those in search of culture, peace and tranquility, Lombok has a variety of sights to be seen. Explore the various temples including Pura Lungsar, the holiest place on Lombok dating back to 1714. Or visit Taman Narmada, laid out as a miniature replica of the summit of Gunung Rinjani and its crater lake. For the less active, Kuta Beach, a legendary surfers paradise, is a popular choice, with inviting turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Alternatively venture a little further afield and visit the tiny coral fringed Gili Islands just off the northwest coast.
